Powerful Eruption Mount Sinabung Volcano in Sumatra
The eruption of the volcano has not ended:
Just a few days after the official alert status of the volcano had been decreased from 4 (highest) to 3 on the Indonesian scale of 1-4, a sudden, moderately violent explosion occurred this morning.
The short-lived explosion began at 11:49 local time and produced a dense ash-loaded plume that rose quickly to approx. 1500 m above the volcano. It seems likely to have been a vulcanian-style explosion, caused by sudden release of accumulated gas pressure trapped inside the sticky magma in the upper conduit and shows that even though the overall activity has been slowing down and the eruption is likely approaching its end, the volcano remains dangerous.
